Q+A with Sylvie from +ESTATEofMIND

Crown St, Surry Hills is one of my favourite shopping destinations in Sydney. You can stroll down the leafy street for hours and stumble upon some amazing treasures. Last year I discovered +ESTATEofMIND, an amazingly quirky boutique and home of some of Australia's most exciting designers, such as Michael Lo Sordo, Flowers for a Vagabond and Ashleigh Taylor
The Fashion Patriot chatted with owner of +ESTATEofMIND, Sylvie to find out why +ESTATEofMIND is so special and some of her favourite pieces in store at the moment.

Martin Grant to design new Qantas uniforms

After an 8 month search, Australian-born and Paris-based designer, Martin Grant has been chosen to design the new Qantas uniforms. Grant's Qantas debut is set to take place in 2014, and are to replace Peter Morrissey's Aboriginal-inspired uniforms.

Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce said he hopes the new uniform will provide the same emotional reaction as the white kangaroo on the red tail. Grant expressed his excitement for his new job saying, "when I'm travelling, whenever I see a Qantas aircraft in a terminal I get very excited"

The uniforms won't be unveiled for quite sometime... But I can't wait!

Spotted...

The uber glam, Cannes Film Festival was held over the past week, and everyone who's anyone was in town bringing their fashion A-game.

The Australian face of L'Oreal, Megan Gale made an appearance on behalf the cosmetics company, and she absolutely shone on the red-carpet. The Aussie supermodel made her Cannes debut in a dazzling Alex Perry gown.

Gale explained the reason for choosing her close friend to dress her for the event, "for my first night I really wanted to support the Australian fashion industry and walked the red carpet wearing a one-off custom-made Alex Perry gown”.... PREACH! I love when Australians support Australian designers!! All I can say is that Megan looked absolutely amazing, and Mr. Perry must be ecstatic that one of his creations has graced one of the most elegant red carpet events in the World!

Kirstie Clements' final Vogue Aus Cover

As we mentioned earlier this month, Kirstie Clements' 13-year run at Vogue Australia has come to an end. It has been announced that her final issue will be the upcoming July issue, which comes on sale on June 6.

Clements' final cover features, Voice judge, Delta Goodrem. Vogue Australia's Features Director Alexandra Spring explains the inspiration behind the cover and spread, “it would be fair to say that viewers are seeing a different side to Our Delta. We wanted to show her a little more raw and sensual; to let her natural beauty shine through. Gone is the shy, demure teen, behold a feistier and unashamedly ambitious Goodrem, who wants to win”.

A number of previews have been released which see Delta in looking pretty in all-black ensembles.

I don't know about you, but I am definitely excited to receive my copy of the July issue!

Not to mention, the anticipation of Edwina McCann's first Vogue Australia issue is almost killing me!

E! News co-host, Giuliana Rancic is known for wearing Australian designers in the past, and last week, when I was being updated on the latest in celebrity gossip I noticed the mum-to-be rocking a peplum Maurie & Eve dress. I am obsessed with this black and white print, I've been lusting for the Olivia one-shoulder dress in this print all winter.

On a side note, I would just like to say how incredibly happy I am for Giuliana and her husband Bill, after a years of receiving terrible news, it is so exciting they're finally expecting a baby! This happy ending couldn't happen to more deserving people - Congratulations! X

Designer Spotlight: Batson

Two weeks ago I had the amazing pleasure of attending a press showing at the PR Department. The PR Department is a newly established Sydney-based PR company that represents an array of formidable emerging designers, including Batson. Batson is a Brisbane-based label, headed up by designer, Bianca, who's heading to Central Saint Martins in a week, and has previously studied at Queensland University of Technology. Bianca has really taken digital prints to the next level with her SS12/13 collection with prints used within the collection derived by photographs she took whilst in Europe. This collection uses sorbet shades to convey a ladylike appeal with an underlying virile quality.

The Fashion Patriot managed to catch Bianca before she heads off to the UK to chat about Batson, SS13 trends and her style crush!

The Great Gatsby

For those of you who haven't yet seen The Great Gatsby trailer that went viral today, it is a MUST!

Oh. My. God!

The Baz Lurhmann directed film just oozes opulence... I had a serious 1920s moment, and felt an immediate desire to find the perfect flapper dress just so I could channel Daisy Buchanan.

Before seeing the trailer I wasn't even that interested in seeing the film, but the costumes, the transformation of Sydney to New York and of course, Leonardo have definitely changed my mind. I seriously haven't been this excited for a film in years!

Baz is a genius, and with that stellar cast, The Great Gatsby is sure to be a hit.

Behati Prinsloo is the New Face of Seafolly

Namibian model, Behati Prinsloo has been named the new face of Australian swimwear brand, Seafolly. The Victoria's Secret model is looking bronzed and beautiful in these campaigns, shot by David Gubert in Palm Springs earlier this year.

I think she's a perfect fit for Seafolly, she embodies fun, beauty and fashion-forwardness, which reflects the Seafolly philosophy.

Designer Spotlight: Edenborough Evans

I discovered Edenborough Evans a few weeks before MBFWA when I was trying to figure out what showrooms I wanted to check out. When I saw their extremely affordable gold and sterling silver pieces I was sold! I loved the organic and abstract shapes... It kind of reminded me of a skeleton.

When I met the girls (sisters, Anna and Kate.. Anna is the designer, Kate is the business manager) at MBFWA, I was not only impressed by the collection, but fell in love for their passion for Australian fashion.
Each piece is full of detail, and it's all so well-made (I'm all about quality!) There's nothing super extravagant about the pieces, they're simply chic and I love that! You can wear them all day every day, or for special occasions. I can't wait to get my greasy little mits on the Orchard ring in gold! (above)

Anna took time out to have a quick chat to me about her style, how Edenborough Evans got started and what's to come... Make sure you check it out below!

Michael Clarke marries Kyly Boldy

Captain of the Australian cricket team, Michael Clarke secretly married his girlfriend, Kyly Boldy on Tuesday, 15 May in the Blue Mountains in front of family and close friends.

The intimate affair was a stark contrast to his ill-fated relationship with Lara Bingle, which he called off in 2010.

The new Mrs. Clarke wore an elaborate white and silver gown, designed by Kyly and good friend Alex Perry. The gorgeous gown featured a heavily embellished bodice and tiered skirt.

The newlyweds took to Twitter to announce the news last night... The Test captain first broke the news by saying, "Happiest guy in the world. Married @KylyBoldy yesterday in front of our gorgeous families. Couldn't be happier!" His new wife, followed a similar sentiment a minute later, "Luckiest Woman in the world! Married @MClarke23 on the 15th of May 2012. Greatest day of my life, so proud to be your Wife"

Miranda Kerr on the cover of Instyle

Australia's most stylish woman, Miranda Kerr shows some leg on the cover of the most recent, Instyle magazine. The amazing red dress was designed by none other, than the King of Colour, Carl Kapp.

Instyle Australia's, Women of Style Awards 2012

Last night, Aussie A-Listers headed to Carriage Works in Sydney to celebrate the Instyle and Audi Women of Style Awards. All the ladies brought their A-Game to the red carpet... I loved all the colour and nudes... But seriously, it's just not worth competing with Miranda Kerr (who also happens to have won the Readers' Choice Award of Most Stylish) she looked picture perfect in a powder blue, Carla Zampatti gown. I also loved Lara Bingle in Romance was Born, and Miranda Otto in Lisa Ho... I am obsessed with that yellow!

Alyssa McClelland in Alex Perry

Kate Richie in Steven Khalil

Kerrie McCallum in Carl Kapp

Lara Bingle in Romance was Born

Laura Csortan in Manning Cartell

Megan Washington in Alex Perry

Miranda Otto in Lisa Ho - LOVE this colour!

Terry Biviano keeps it cute in Aurelio Costarella

Vogue Editor, Kirstie Clements has been sacked!

Vogue Australia's Editor-in-Chief, Kirstie Clements has been fired, the Sydney Morning Herald confirms. Clements has been at the helm for 13 years, and was seen only 2 weeks ago, front row at MBFWA... So this news is shocking for most. Even more shocking is Clements' replacement - Edwina McCann... Harper's Bazaar's Editor-in-Chief for the past 3 years!

An interesting choice indeed, however it does make perfect sense... Australia is the only country in the world where Harper's Bazaar outsells Vogue!

What I'd like to know is, will Christine Centenera be the next Editor-in-Chief of Harper's? She is definitely deserving!

Yesterday, Miley Cyrus stepped out in Miami, Florida with her newly adopted pup, Happy. The I Can't Be Tamed songstress donned a bec & bridge crochet maxi skirt as she stopped to take photos with fans.

sass & bide has teamed up with Make-A-Wish Australia, and designed three limited edition star necklace. sass & bide stated, "the star represents enduring friendship & love, and by partnering with Make-A-Wish® Australia we hope the proceeds of these necklaces can help make a very real difference to the lives of seriously ill children around the country”

All profits derived from these necklaces will be donated to Make-A-Wish Australia... So not only will you look super chic with a star around your neck in an on-trend neon, you be helping change the lives of seriously sick children. I am putting in my order for the pink star as we speak!

Nicole Kidman on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia

I am OBSESSED with this June/July Harper's Bazaar cover!! I usually find Nicole Kidman a little cold and stand-offish. (Ha! You'd think I had met the lady!) But this cover of her holding her youngest daughter, Faith, is so warm and gorgeous, I can't help but kind of love Nicole now. This cover is also different to anything Harper's has done in a while... Yet it is still uber chic and high fashion. I can't wait til May 14 to check out the rest of Nicole's spread!!

P.S. Aren't you dying over Faith's little curls?!

My Top 10 from the Met Ball

For those of you who don't know, the Met Ball is like the Fashion Oscars. It's an annual ball that marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. This year's exhibit is celebrating two of Italy's most iconic female designers, Schiaparreli and Prada.

I have listed my best dressed, in no particular order, just because I found it nearly impossible to rank them from 1-10, but my top 2 would probably be Camilla Belle and Diane Kruger - A-MAY-ZING!! *slobbers like a dog*

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren

Diane Kruger in Prada

Gisele Bundchen in Givenchy

Solange in Rachel Roy

Rihanna in Tom Ford

Amber Heard in Zac Posen

Kate Bosworth in Prada

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Candice Swanepoel in Rag & Bone

Leslie Bibb in Zac Posen

Nana Judy at MBFWA

Amy Meredith take the stage

What a way to finish off an amazing week!! Nana Judy seriously brought the Rock n Roll back to Australian Fashion Week. The show spectacle was incredibly entertaining, with Amy Meredith playing live. The models brought their fiercest attitudes, but weren't afraid to have fun, dancing along to the music and mucking around with lead singer, Christian. It was really refreshing to see!

Nana Judy's SS12/13 collection maintained their signature Rock n Roll aesthetic, with studs, zippers and digital prints of record covers all making an appearance, and the Nana Judy look was successfully translated into their new women's line, Heart. Each and every look was edgy, cool and totally wearable.... I have been looking for wine-coloured skinny jeans forever, and the pair by Nana Judy are serious perfection!

The whole show was cheeky, and a whole lot of fun... The perfect way to end MBFWA 2012.
