The Intersection Co-Op

If I had to make two words out of genius, they'd be Theo Onisforou. He is just totally amazing... He has made such an influential mark on the Australian fashion industry, with the development of The Intersection in Sydney's Paddington. The Intersection is a shopping precinct that has a dominant focus on Australian designers. It has become a destination. In an age where online shopping is the most popular means of purchasing, customers are more willing to travel to The Intersection to experience the outdoor high-street enjoyment, and all thanks to one man, Theo Onisforou.

Vignette: Stephanie Vandoros Collection

I met Stephanie at Kirribilli markets at the beginning of the year, and her incredible fabrics and ridiculously intricate attention to detail caught my attention straight away. Our first online editorial, which we are shooting this weekend (yay!) will be featuring her collection, and I cannot wait to show you the finished product. In the meantime, get to know Stephanie and her collection in our first designer in the spotlight post!

Marie Claire July Issue

This is a cover that all Australian fashion magazines should strive for.... a fabulous Aussie model, Megan Gale, wearing an amazing creation by Alex Perry and all for a good cause; raising awareness about Heart disease.

I really hope we start seeing more covers in the future that embrace Australian fashion, because this cover speaks volumes and is just incredible!

Sydney Design 2011

Sydney Design 2011 is opening at the Powerhouse Museum on July 29. This year's theme is "Is Old New Again", which aims to explore the collision between tradition and innovation, heritage and experimentation, with a heavy emphasis on lace.
The event boasts over 90 exhibitions and events across Sydney from July 30 - August 14, with the aim to give in depth insights into design processes and innovations. The event is expected to cover all aspects of design, from architecture, fashion, graphic design and industrial design.
Most exciting Sydney Design 2011 will be hosting the announcement of this year's Design NSW Travelling Scholarship, which is awarded to an emerging designer at the launch evening. The scholarship grants the winner $18,000 to further their career by partaking in a program of professional development overseas. Each year this scholarship is offered each year by the NSW Government, with the support of the Powerhouse Museum and the British Council.... I love this, these types of initiatives make me really excited that the support for emerging designers is growing, and is being encouraged by the Government.
I can't wait to check it out... I'm especially excited to see who wins the scholarship! If you live in Sydney, be sure to check it out, it's definitely worthwhile :)

Inspiration: State of Design

In 2004, State of Design was launched, and is Australia's largest and most innovative design event. It is a Victorian Government initiative, that communicates a deeper understanding of design. Part of the State of Design Festival is the Design Made Trade. This July will mark its 4th year and will run over 4 days, from July 21 - July 24. It is an event designed to promote up-and-coming designers across all design fields, including fashion, furniture and product.

I find this event inspirational, even aspirational... Because I would love to establish a market for emerging talent to showcase their work. That's what The Fashion Patriot is all about, celebrating Australian fashion and attempting to create a platform for up-and-comers to show off their talents, because there is so much undiscovered talent out there that needs a voice, and I'd like to think The Fashion Patriot can become a significant and influential voice within the Australian fashion industry.

Introducing...

My dear friend, Laura (LGH) is going to start guest blogging here at the Fashion Patriot. She is a fellow fashion devotee, like myself, and we are excited to bring you some of her insights... First up is her look into where you can buy Australian designers online, as I've noticed at least half our audience is international.

Please enjoy! X

VA-VA-VOOOM!

Gunnedah's own, Miranda Kerr wowed at the CFDA Awards at the Lincoln Centre in New York on Monday night.

She may not be wearing an Australian designer, but The Fashion Patriot is about everything in Australian fashion and Miranda is a huge advocator of the Australian Fashion Industry. Although she is based in the US, she is very much the Aussie girl next-door, maintaining close ties with Australia, by launching her cosmetics line, Kora here as well as being the face of David Jones, one of Australia's largest department store chains.

So besides the fact she is wearing Michael Kors (who is not Australian, however still fabulous), she is doing an incredible job representing Australia in fashion industries internationally... and just look at her body in this dress, it is ridiculous! She gave birth to her first child, Flynn a mere 5 months ago!
